Russian Serial Killer

MOSCOW A former policeman suspected of raping and murdering 23 women in eastern Siberia in the 1990s has been detained after years of searches and hundreds of tests, Russian authorities said on Friday.

The man from Angarsk, a small industrial town in eastern Siberia, is believed to be behind the serial killings that occurred between 1994 and 1999, investigators said.

All the victims disappeared in similar circumstances and their bodies were later found in the woods just outside the city, in a local cemetery or on the roadside, said Moscow-based investigators. “Most of the women were naked, and their bodies bore signs of being raped,” the investigators said in a statement, adding that some of the victims had also been robbed of money and jewellery.

During a decade-long manhunt, the authorities conducted DNA tests on 3,500 individuals and questioned more than 1,000 people. The suspect was serving in the police at the time of most of the killings but retired in 1998.

Tests so far have found that his DNA matches biological material discovered on the bodies of three of the women, investigators said.

The suspect, who has not been identified, was detained on Saturday in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok and taken back to Siberia, they said, adding that the investigation was continuing.  Police in Siberia’s Irkutsk region, which includes Angarsk, said the suspect’s involvement in all the murders has yet to be proved.

“Right now it is not that important who the criminal is at the end of the day: a former policeman, soldier, doctor or someone else,” the police said in a statement. “The most important thing is for the principle of inevitability of punishment to work.”

It is impressive that after all this time they are still working on the cases and solving them. It is also good to see them releasing information on the cases. There was a time when Russia denied having serial killers at all.

Winnipeg Serial Killer Caught

A Canadian drifter with an extensive criminal background is now accused of becoming a Winnipeg serial killer.

Shawn Cameron Lamb, 52, has been charged with three counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Tanya Nepinak, Carolyn Sinclair, and Lorna Blacksmith, police announced Monday morning. Police are also investigating whether the accused could be involved in other unsolved cases of murdered or missing women, the source says.

All three women worked in the city’s sex-trade industry. Police said the bodies of Sinclair and Blacksmith have been located – reportedly in dumpsters and wrapped in plastic – while the search for Nepinak’s remains is ongoing.

Court records obtained by the Free Press show police believe Nepinak was killed Sept. 13, 2011, Sinclair was killed Dec. 18, 2011 and Blacksmith was killed Jan. 12, 2012.

Lamb has an extensive criminal history over the past 10 years, according to court documents obtained by the Free Press. They include dozens of convictions for robbery, carrying weapons, uttering threats, fraud, forgery, assaulting police officers, possessing stolen property, break-and-enter and breaching numerous court orders.

The revolving doors of justice really need to be nailed closed. It is sickening to hear that a serial killer has a criminal history like this. There were so many chances to stop him and save so many lives.

Winnipeg police Chief Keith McCaskill said Lamb was identified as a suspect in a serious sexual assault last Thursday. After he was arrested on that case, evidence came to light that tied him to the three killings.

That makes 4 recent victims, one survived in my opinion.

Guyader said a team of 24 investigators – 10 from the Winnipeg Police Service and 14 from the RCMP – are part of the ongoing investigation into the possibility other homicides may be linked to the same suspect..

McCaskill said Lamb has travelled extensively across the country and that investigators will be in contact with other police agencies to see if he is connected with any unsolved homicides in other communities.

Guyader said he could not confirm that any of the three women were involved in the sex trade. McCaskill said it’s irrelevant how the murdered women made their living.

“They are victims and they should never have been,” McCaskill said.

Amen

Guyader would not disclose where else Lamb has travelled across the country or why he travelled so much. Guyader said the bodies of Blacksmith and Sinclair are too badly decomposed to determine a cause of death or to know if they had been sexually assaulted, adding however that forensic work is being done to answer those questions.

Guyader said the families of all three women were spoken to by investigators in person late Sunday. McCaskill said AMC Grand Chief Derek Nepinak was briefed this morning.

In addition to the three killings and last week’s sex assault, Lamb is also accused of an Oct. 30, 2011 sexual assault, sexual interference and procuring of a child under the age of 18 to work in the sex-trade. He is also accused of failing to abide by a previous court order by abstaining from drugs and alcohol.

However, court records show Lamb wasn’t arrested on those charges until late May. It’s not immediately clear if, or when, he was granted bail. However, he was obviously released at some point since he was arrested in the community last Thursday.

If they had kept the bastard locked away after he was arrested the last time (not to mention al the other times) for sexual assault, sexual interference and procuring of a child under the age of 18 to work in the sex-trade there would be 3 women alive today.

Really he pimped out a child (according to the report above) and he was freed? Sexual assault still free. Not found guilty but let to walk the streets until trial!!!

WTF?!?!?!?!

Serial Killer Alcala Pleads Not Guilty in NY

“Dating Game” serial killer Rodney Alcala seemed amused Thursday as he left a Manhattan courtroom after pleading not guilty to two murders in Manhattan in the 1970s.

With shackles jangling around his orange prison garb and his gray frizzy curls pulled into a ponytail at the nape of his neck, Alcala, 68, had a slight smile on his face after Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Bonnie Wittner ordered him to be held without bail.

After all, what could New York do to him? California already has him on death row for strangling five females including a 12-year-old girl.

Alacala, aka John Berger, was formally charged with the deaths of Cornelia Crilley, a TWA flight attendant strangled with her pantyhose in her Upper East side apartment, and Ellen Hover, the daughter of a Hollywood nightclub owner, whose body was found on the Rockefeller estate in Pocantico Hills, N.Y.

I am sure that he is enjoying the attention and the new location. The saddest thing is that the article is right, what else can N.Y. do to him?

What the trial can do, hopefully, is give the families some closure and maybe even some peace.

French investigators to reopen case of British student killed in 1990

French investigators are to reopen an inquiry into the unsolved murder of a British student 22 years ago after the discovery of new evidence.

The body of Joanna Parrish 20, a Leeds University language student, was found in the river at Auxerre in Burgundy in 1990. She was abducted after placing an advertisement in a local newspaper offering English lessons, and had been raped, beaten and strangled.

Parrish’s parents accused French police of bungling the case and losing vital evidence. Her father, Roger Parrish, and his former wife Pauline believed that serial killer Michel Fourniret, a 69-year-old former forest ranger who was convicted of the murder and rape of seven girls and young women in France and Belgium in 2008, was responsible for their daughter’s death.

Fourniret’s wife, Monique Olivier, twice told investigators he had killed Parrish, but the murderer, serving life imprisonment, has always denied any involvement in her death. Olivier, who had helped her husband lure his victims and was also given a life sentence for complicity in murder, later retracted her claims.

On 16 May 1990, Parrish disappeared after going to the centre of Auxerre to meet a man who had phoned in answer to her advertisement, saying he wanted her to teach his son English. She was never seen alive again. The following day her naked body was found in the River Yonne, three miles outside the town.

Joanna’s parents, who had spent more than two decades battling to discover who killed their daughter, vowed not to give up until the murderer was identified. They were devastated when French judges closed the case in 2010, saying there was “no case to answer” against Fourniret, who was nicknamed The Beast of Ardennes.

On Tuesday it was announced that the Paris court of appeal had overturned this decision and ordered investigative judges to “make new inquiries in all directions … including a new line of inquiry that has just been discovered”.

Didier Seban, the Parrish family lawyer, said the new evidence concerned “a man with a serious criminal record” whose name had been given to the police. “Joanna’s parents, who have often had the impression of being abandoned by the French justice system, have renewed hope of finally seeing a result to the inquiry,” Mr Seban told AFP.

The lawyer said investigators had DNA evidence that could produce new leads.

At Fourniret’s trial in 2008, Roger Parrish, 68, a retired civil servant, said his family had been “living a nightmare”.

“But we will find the answer and will not abandon our fight for the truth … All we want to know is who killed our daughter,” he told French journalists.

I hope that this family finally gets some closure. With DNA there is a good chance that they will.

India Serial Killings: More Female Body Parts Recovered; Possible Copycat Killings

KARACHI: The police made another distressing recovery on Tuesday as they collected a female’s upper and middle torso from Surjani police precincts, the sequel of serial killings that have been disturbing the citizens for past two months.

According to police, unidentified culprit or culprits chopped the woman down into pieces and then disposed of the body parts at different areas of the metropolis. They said that two legs and hands were recovered from Manghopir on Monday whereas the remaining organs, except head, were recovered from Surjani Town Tuesday.

Police said that the culprits adopted a recently arrested serial killer’s approach, adding that another group or the nabbed serial killer’s accomplices might be involved in the incident.

Alleged serial killer Muhammad Rafiq was arrested from Patel Para on April 24. Rafiq, along with his friend Iqbal used to pick up harlots from the vicinity of Numaish roundabout and after sexual satisfaction, mow them down into pieces that were to be abandoned elsewhere. The accused used to victimise a woman on the 10th day of given month.

“Harlots?” That just seems an odd word to use.

Was this latest victim also killed on the 10th day?

Firstly, they killed a recently converted Muslim and a mother of five, Nasreen on March 10. They chopped Nasreen down into pieces after satisfying their lust and then abandoned her body organs at different areas of Solider Bazaar police precincts. Her body was recovered over a period of three days, March 10-12. Then, they victimised another female in the similar fashion, on April 10. However, the identity of their second victim is still a mystery. The body parts of this unknown woman were again recovered over a span of three days, April 10-12.

Self Proclaimed ‘Porn Star’ Famous for Animal Abuse Suspect in Murder Now

MONTREAL – Montreal police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for Luka Rocco Magnotta — a man with a disturbing online profile who is now accused of murder after the grisly discovery of a torso, whose severed foot and hand were mailed to the Conservative and Liberal party offices in Ottawa.

Police also confirmed that the suspect at large in the gruesome murder and dismemberment once dated notorious sex killer Karla Homolka, though in 2007 Magnotta denied he dated the notorious sex killer.

A video purporting to show Magnotta stabbing a man repeatedly on a bed has been circulating online and was sent to the Montreal Gazette. The Gazette has been unable to confirm that this is the same video that police received. The Gazette has not been able to confirm whether the video was staged.

Police have obtained a disturbing video of the crime and are taking steps to have it removed from a website where it was posted, The Gazette has confirmed.

I did not see the video and I am not looking for it in order to post a link. Sorry, you wanna see you have to look. That does not sound like something pleasant to watch.

Investigators are seeking the public’s aid in locating the 29-year-old Magnotta, who may also go by the names Eric Clinton, Kirk Newman or Vladimir Romanov.

“We really need the public’s help on this,” said SPVM spokesman Ian Lafrenière. The assistance of residents in the area where the body was discovered had also helped the investigation advance quickly.

Magnotta is said to be a stripper and a porn star. The suspect was not previously known to police, Lafrenière said.

A headless, limbless torso was discovered in a suitcase with a heap of garbage Tuesday at Place Lucy and Decarie Boulevard in Montreal’s Snowden neighbourhood. At about the same time Tuesday, an employee of Conservative Party of Canada headquarters in Ottawa opened a package that contained a severed foot. A second parcel containing a hand was later located at a Canada Post sorting facility in Ottawa.

Wednesday, police linked the severed appendages to the torso and transferred the case to Montreal Police.

Montreal Police focused their attention on a second floor apartment in a building on Decarie near where the torso was found Tuesday in a suitcase on the curb with a pile of garbage.

The tenant of the building is being sought by police, said residents of the building.

The apartment smelled terrible and it appears the homicide was carried out on a bed in the small apartment. A reporter saw a mattress stained with blood Wednesday afternoon.

Residents also said police believe the torso belongs to an Asian man who is apparently missing. The police have been showing them a photo of the Asian man on Wednesday.

Residents described Magnotta as a very quiet man who kept to himself. The building’s superintendant joked about it.

“It’s like you see in the movies. It’s always the good neighbour. It’s the cliché,” he said.

He is right, it is usually the quiet ones.

Residents of the building said they believe Magnotta worked in the gay porn industry.

One said the only time Magnotta spoke to him was about five days ago. He asked the man, an actor, how he could get started in “legitimate” movies.

Residents of the building said they also saw Magnotta wearing a bizarre wig days ago and that they commented on his strange appearance.

Employees at a Canada Post office just a few blocks away from where the suspect lives said the police have not questioned them about the possibility of body parts being mailed from their location. Both employees were aware that a torso had been found near their location. But they said no one had asked them about the case until two reporters asked them about the strange story Wednesday afternoon.

Magnotta was known online for abusing animals not for his acting even in porn. He was known on message boards, like 4chan, especially for the video where he put a kitten (2?) in a plastic bag and filmed them as they died. There were other videos but I think that one was the first to get ‘popular’. (Not in a good way.)

Magnotta has also been the subject of an international social media campaign for allegedly killing kittens, videotaping their deaths and posting the videos online.

Animal rights activists around the world mobilized to identify him and offered a $5,000 to bring him to justice. The online efforts to find him may have fuelled some of Magnotta’s online writings defending his reputation and complaining about “cyber stalking” and “media propaganda” on his website www.Luka-Magnotta.net

“I do not feel the necessity to address the specific accusations made in the posts since they are so far from my character that responding to them will give them more credibility than they will ever hold. If the readers of these posts can look behind the storyline that has been created, they will see that there is no reference to a concrete transaction or event that has taken place with any specific person in which I have committed any illegal activity,” he wrote on one of his eponymous web sites.

“Many hoax websites are created using my image and name, posing as me to seem more believable in respect to the type of audience these website have, I feel I don’t need to list them specifically but people need not be told, not to believe what they read and to take it as fact,” he write in one article entitled “Cyber Stalking” beside a photo of him shirtless and reclining.

It almost seems as if he is denying doing it, but the videos were there and people did see them. I think you can still find them just not on YouTube and I am not risking a virus to see poor kitties killed. Again, you want to see it (for proof or anything else) go find it yourself.

Perhaps if the authorities had stepped in when those videos went viral they would not be trying to identify a human victim. We, society, needs to start paying more attention to those that abuse animals.

Police have not released the victim’s name. An autopsy is expected to reveal how the man was killed and whether he was dead before being dismembered, police said.

The Gazette’s Jan Ravensbergen, Canadian Press and the Ottawa Citizen contributed to this report.

Tapes Might Prove More Manson Family Murders

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police detectives are seeking to review old audio tapes of conversations between Manson Family member Charles “Tex” Watson and his former lawyer, hoping they will shed light on any additional murders the cult may have committed.

The eight hours of recorded discussions between Watson and attorney Bill Boyd were made more than 40 years ago and have surfaced as a part of a bankruptcy case involving Boyd’s now-defunct Texas law firm.

“We are trying to get our hands on a copy of those recordings,” Los Angeles police commander Andrew Smith told Reuters on Friday. “We are doing this to be extraordinarily thorough. We think it’s good police work to continue to pay attention to these cases.”

Smith said the recordings were made in 1969 or 1970, following Watson’s arrest for murders carried out at the direction of Charles Manson that were among the 20th century’s most infamous crimes.

But detectives had no access to the tapes until Watson, now 66 and serving a life prison term in California, waived his attorney-client privilege so that they could be sold to satisfy unpaid legal fees. Boyd died in 2009.

In a letter to a U.S. Department of Justice trustee obtained by local KNBC-TV, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck requested that the recordings be given to his detectives.

“The LAPD has information that Mr. Watson discussed additional unsolved murders committed by followers of Charles Manson,” Beck said in the March 19 letter.

A bankruptcy court hearing has been scheduled for next week in Plano, Texas, to determine if the tapes should be handed over to Los Angeles police investigators.

I am not so sure that there would be any incriminating information on the tapes since Watson waived his rights. He comes up for parole and knows that they will charge him if they can. Still, he was pretty brain-dead back then and he might not remember all that he said.

We can hope.

Suspected Chinese Serial Killer Sold Human Flesh

Police in southwest China have arrested a village man suspected of killing and eating young men, and selling their flesh to unsuspecting consumers buying ostrich meat.

Zhang Yongming, 56, a chess-playing farmer, was detained earlier this month in Nanmen village, in southwest China’s Yunnan province.

Thoughts of Alexander Pichushkin popped into my head. I think I have read of quite a few serial killers that play chess. I know Bundy did. I wonder if they are attacted to the game because of the strategy required to play it? It could also just be cultural influence.

Zhang is being investigated in the murders of at least seven teenagers and boys, the state-run Xinhua news agency said.

He is suspected of chopping up their bodies and feeding the human flesh to his dogs, as well as selling it and eating it himself.

A 19-year-old man from a nearby village who went missing April 25 has been confirmed murdered, a police spokesman told Xinhua. A cell phone, bank card and other evidence said to have belonged to the young man, named as Han Yao, were found in Zhang’s home, police said.

The Guangxi News website reported that more than a dozen other teenagers have gone missing from the village in the past five years, according to Agence France-Presse.

Victims

The website said Zhang is known locally as the “cannibal monster,” and residents said they had seen plastic bags hanging from his home filled with what appeared to be white bones.

Why did they not contact authorities? Really, bones hanging in bags should be enough for a a cop to go check it out.

Hong Kong newspaper The Standard reported Friday that police fear at least 20 people were eaten or their flesh sold as “ostrich meat.”

The Standard said police searching Zhang’s home found dozens of human eyeballs preserved in alcohol inside wine bottles, and pieces of flesh hanging in the house to dry.

I know that this is not the first case of something like this,

(Those are just a few examples!)

so maybe I should not be as disturbed as I am. I just can not help it.

It is bad enough to kill, worse to be a serial killer and worse yet to be a cannible serial killer but to feed humans to other humans especially when they don’t know it is something nightmares are created from. Sweeny Todd always creeped me out because of it.

This was not the first time this monster was in trouble either.

It said Zhang, a loner who never talked to his neighbours, had previously served almost 20 years in jail for murder and was known in the village as the “cannibal monster”.

Local police declined to comment when contacted by AFP, saying information would be made available “at an appropriate time”, and almost all reports on the case were removed from Chinese websites as of yesterday.

Much More Here

Why was he already known as the cannibal monster? I could not find out if he ate his earlier victim but I am guessing he did. Why did they ever release him? That also makes the fact that his neighbors did not contact law enforcement over his bags of bones more upsetting.

Zodiac Killer Is Dead Now?

It happened so fast! The news that he was alive JUST came out and now it has been announced that he is dead….

*insert eye roll here*

The man fingered as the Zodiac serial killer by a retired California Highway Patrol officer in a new book has died – leaving the mystery as alive as ever, and adding yet another figure to the long list of deceased men associated with the case.

The man was a 92-year-old former real estate salesman who died in Fairfield in February. The Chronicle is not naming him because law enforcement agencies do not consider him a suspect, even if former CHP Officer Lyndon Lafferty does.

I feel so cheated! Lied to! 🙂

Lafferty, 79, wrote in his new book, “The Zodiac Killer Cover-Up: AKA the Silenced Badge,” that he first encountered the man in 1970 while on patrol in Vallejo. He gave the man the pseudonym George Russell Tucker in his book, and went to check up on him at his home four months ago – spotting him in the driveway – before sending his book to press.

Sounds like Lafferty was stalking the guy. LOL

Lafferty wrote that he focused on “Tucker” while working with the late Solano County sheriff’s Sgt. Leslie Lundblad. He wrote that the man’s wife had been having an affair with a judge and that the affair had led officials to halt investigations of the man in the Zodiac killings.

So, because the guy’s wife was sleeping with a judge they just let the Zodiac Killer go? Yeah, makes perfect sense to me. I don’t doubt the story at all.

*insert head shake and face palm*

The judge and the wife are long dead, Lafferty said.

Of course all the other people who knew about this just keep on lying even though almost all the key people are dead. I am getting a headache and I did not even read the whole book! Not looking like I am going to either, even if it is free!

Lafferty learned this week that “Tucker” is also dead – as of Feb. 2. A Solano County sheriff’s investigator said he died of a heart attack.

“I can’t say my suspect is absolutely the Zodiac, but I am 98 percent sure we have the right man, and he’s been our suspect for 40 years,” Lafferty said. He researched his book with seven fellow sleuths, including other law enforcement officials who investigated the case at its height.

The man he named is in the Napa County sheriff’s database of people of interest in the case, but was not considered a serious enough candidate to list as a suspect, said Napa police Detective Todd Schulman, who is on a cold case task force in the county.

“We get two or three tips a week,” he said.

Even that cop sounds as if he is saying “Yeah, we put this right up there with all the other Nopes we get.

Solano County and San Francisco investigators also said the man is not a suspect.

In the Fairfield neighborhood where the now-deceased man’s tidy blue house sits empty, residents said they couldn’t imagine their affable neighbor as a killer.

Nora Del Ross, who lives across the street, said the man moved in the same week she did about 40 years ago. She said he was kind to her children and brought gifts to newcomers.

“No, there’s no way he would have been the Zodiac killer – not the way I knew him,” she said. “I’m blown away. It’s utterly ridiculous.”

“He never seemed like a psycho killer or anything like that,” said Ana Braselton, 25, who moved in next door to the man two years ago. “He was a good man, at least from the outside.”

To be fair I can not take the neighbor’s words as proof for or against. It is all to often that a serial killer is described as a nice, quiet guy, family man, hard worker, good husband / father and ‘great guy’. I still give Lafferty NO credence. I do not think his theory is valid at all.

“Tucker” joins the pantheon of people named in the case over the years by amateur sleuths. New names still pop up every week on Internet forums, ranging from people’s uncles and fathers to some whom authorities have actually investigated.

Foremost among them in terms of police interest is Arthur Leigh Allen, a convicted child molester from Vallejo who died in 1992 at age 58. He was named as the Zodiac in former Chronicle cartoonist Robert Graysmith’s 2002 book, “Zodiac Unmasked.”

There was a DNA test that disqualified him as a suspect. Zodiac unmasked has quite a few errors and stretches of ‘truth’ in it.

Kevin Fagan and Demian Bulwa are San Francisco Chronicle staff writers.

New Book Alleges Zodiac Killer Still Alive

and living in California

A new book claims that the infamous Zodiac killer is still alive and living in Northern California.

“The Zodiac Killer Cover Up” was written by a former California Highway Patrol officer, Lyndon Lafferty, and adds another theory to the much-discussed serial killer case in Northern California.

The  Zodiac killer is blamed for at least five slayings in 1968 and 1969. There was never an arrest in the case.

Three killings occurred in Vallejo. Teenagers David Farraday and Betty Lou Jensen were shot to death in December 1968. Darlene Ferrin, 22, was shot and killed seven months later at Blue Rock Springs Golf Club. Her companion, Michael Mageau, 19, survived.

In “The Zodiac Killer Cover Up,” Lafferty claims the killer is now a 91-year-old man living in Solano County. The book uses aliases and does not identify the alleged killer by name. Lafferty claims he and other lawmen investigated the suspect in the early 1970s but were stymied by “power brokers” in Solano County.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the book has stirred new debate among those who have followed the famous killings.

The San Francisco police formally closed the case in 2004. The Zodiac killer got his name by taunting newspapers and the police with letters and puzzles.

Zodiackiller.com is a great place for information if you are interested. It is updated often and has information, files, clippings and more that you can not find elsewhere on the net. Also, note that LAPD did not actually ‘close’ the case, they just are placing it as inactive. If there is a new lead I am sure they’d jump on it. Even the article linked above states that it is inactive.

“The case is being placed inactive,” said San Francisco Police Lt. John Hennessey, head of the department’s homicide unit.

“Given the pressure of our existing caseload and the amount of cases that remain open at this time, we need to be most efficient at using our resources,” he said.

Link again.

“The police shall never catch me, because I have been too clever for them,” he wrote in a letter sent to the San Francisco Chronicle.

“I enjoy needling the blue pigs,” he wrote. Detectives thought they might have had a break two years ago, when a partial DNA profile was taken from envelopes containing the letters.

The genetic evidence seemed to clear the only suspect ever named by police — Arthur Leigh Allen of Vallejo. Allen, who was never charged, died of a heart attack in 1992.

— Shelby Grad

There was a link up there that was supposed to go the book but it went to an “oops” page. This is the web site for the book.

As the title suggests it is a conspiracy type book. I don’t think I am going to buy it but if I can down load it for free maybe. I have a hard time with most conspiracy theories, especially with this case. Too many people would have to be quiet for too long. They would risk their freedom, other people’s lives and on the other side there was reward money and other monies to be had.

Besides the Zodiackiller.com site you can also read the FBI files on the Zodiac if you want. Lots of real information on those 2 sites. Plus it is always ‘fun’ to look at the actual FBI files!
