Blondie vs Bundy ?
Debra Harry has come out saying that she was almost a victim of Ted Bundy.
Harry said:
“It was in the early 70s and I was trying to get across town at two or three o’clock in the morning.
“This little car kept coming around and offering me a ride. I kept saying no but finally I took the ride because I couldn’t get a cab.
“I got in the car and the windows were are rolled up, except for a tiny crack. This driver had an incredibly bad smell to him.
“I looked down and there were no door handles. The inside of the car was stripped. The hairs on the back of my neck just stood up.
“I wiggled my arm out of the window and pulled the door handle from the outside. I don’t know how I did it, but I got out.
“He tried to stop me by spinning the car but it sort of helped me fling myself out. Afterwards I saw him on the news. Ted Bundy.”
I wondered why she was just mentioning it now but after looking it up she has talked about it before. Snopes already has an article disclaiming her story. Plus there were a few other articles out there about it.
That made me question why she is bringing it up again and why now?
I found the answer, she has a new album / cd coming out soon.
Sad comment on Blondie that she is choosing this as a way to promote her album.
I read the article and I am positive she is either wrong about who it was or she is out and out lying.
There is no record of Bundy being in NY at all. He has been investigated and his movements were traced by multiple police departments and government departments and at no time is it mentioned that he was in NY. He did go to Pennsylvania and Vermont but not NY. I guess he could have made a side trip but I am sure someone would have noticed. There would have been a receipt, another witness, a mention somewhere but there is none. Plus the other trips to the North East were years before Debra claims this happened.
She calls the guy “smelly.” I doubt that Ted Bundy would have been driving around NY in a beat up car looking for victims with a load of body odor. No one ever speaks of Bundy having bad personal hygiene habits and actually when his habits are spoken of it is the opposite. He was almost obsessive about his looks and the way other perceived him.
Also, part of Bundy’s fantasy was the seduction of the women that he killed, he was not one of those serial killers that had a mass of hitchhiker victims. That would have been too easy for Bundy. He liked to outsmart his victims, to lure them to him. He wanted the cat and mouse game almost as such as the actual killing.
I know, this time he could have and that is true but doubtful.
When I look at her story as a whole it is just wrong.
I did look and try to find a killer at that time that might have been killing hitchhikers or prostitutes (not saying that was what she was doing but a woman on a corner in NY at that time might have been perceived as a working girl) and I did not find one that fit. Time frame, victim type, place, hygiene, and looked kind of like Bundy. I did not find anyone that fit.
So,,,,
Maybe she was picked up by someone (?) and maybe they had a car modified without any interior handles (?) and maybe he gave her the creeps and she jumped from a moving car… ?
Maybe she is full of crap and trying to sell albums.
It is sad that Blondie feels she has to connect her name to Ted Bundy for attention.
